Life is full of strange opportunities!

Uncle Jaffa and Mrs Jaffa have taken 5 days out from the dust bowl building site that is home while we renovate.
We go to a Salt bath spa resort, in the alps where emporers " took the waters" The town Bad Ischl just over a Mountain from Bad Aussee, which has nothing to do about being Australian.
( but I digress) the town has a river and after morning coffee and Strudel ( What else in Austria) we go for the imperial stroll along the river, and we see walking across a bridge, a guy with a shortboard.

Greeting exchanged and I will going and videoing their next annual competition the Crown of the Traun.

It might be too much for Uncle Jaffa on a long board to surf in short arcs but maybe the kneeboard.
There are new safety things to learn like the leash goes on your upper arm and rock avoidance techniques for when you are washed down stream .
Also the icebergs have melted on the lake so the dark side of SUPing will come with the spring.
Still at minuscule gonad temperatures at the moment.
Tell you more as I search for Mysto mythical Austrian point break

River SUPing is bigger than river surfing from what I have been gathering. I'm guessing is the extra advantage of being able to float downstream.

Seems SUPing is more a form of transportation than a sport.

Well, surfs up, small day at the local river, learning the wave, the guy who presented us with the opportunity led us to the spot!

Apparently we should have been here yesterday
Rain dependent, but all good and this is the kiddy break

Overhead hand jive here.
Thank you Vincent
Just a footnote, this is a crowd of one although a SUP went by downstream.
The Eisbach in Munich is dangerous and the locals exercise some crowd control because of the concrete slabs behind the wave and the fact thriving the narrow canal, is quasi legal, a serious injury to a kook could shut it down!

That looks fun Jaffa! :D

It's probably a really PITA to get back to the spot when you get behind the wave though, right?

I think they use a rope to get their board in the right spot and then let it go once they're in the barrel :D I've never river surfed so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

When you wipe at this river wave you wash to a calm zone swim to shore and walk 50 metres to,the take off rock.
This was the Crown of The Traun competition by Salzkammergut Rivermates Surf Club.

To catch the wave you can acid drop or belly flop
The crowd watch from above close enough to hold a conversation.

The line is very democratic everyone departs the wave on wipe out comes to shore and resumes their place in the line up, catch surf repeat, no drop ins or snaking and no duck dive or paddle out!
