.......Hi !!!

hi ive just started surfing after about six years of living near the coast. ive always wanted to try it as i was into skating as a kid, and have finaly plucked up the courage to give it a go.

after paddling like a spastic seagull for about half an hour i caught a wave on an 8ft foamy (board),now im hooked!

im looking for a bord of my own now and i getting advice from every surfer i know and im getting confused, so maybe you can help??

im 6ft 5", 23st what would be the best thing to go for? i know i need 8ft plus but thats gonna cost.

any idears??

if i can sweet talk the missus ive got about £300 to spend

any more advice welcome

£300 aint a great deal when you're looking for an 8ft+ board, but hang in there.

Fistral Surf Company in Newquay have a range of boards with bags etc for about £300 - and that's new!!

Look out for a 2nd hand board, but the longer ones are harder to come by in this country!

At 23 stone I would look at a longboard - I'm not trying to be mean but you're going to need a board that can float you so I would probably go longer than 9ft if possible. You'll get more out of it.

If you're in N. Devon, get a longboard and get out at Saunton Sands - long waves which are great for longboards.

You're in a good spot already so get going!
