has anyone else been affected by theives?
about 6 weeks ago i had my surfboard stolen from my local beach. i found out who took it and reported it to the police but as i couldnt proove the board was mine (it was a pop out) i couldnt get it back and the little pikey got away with it! (after i was told this i shouted at the policeman who then asked me 'why does it matter so much? its only a surfboard, grow up')
then a couple of weeks ago a guy i work with had his front window smashed and his and his girlfriends wetsuits stolen from his van.
and now, my boyfriend leaves my house this morning only to return two seconds later to tell me the straps have been cut off his roof and his longboard has been stolen.
what has happened to the world!!!!???!!!
am i just seriously unlucky or is this happening to anyone else?!

damn thats really harsh! I'll bear it in mind if i ever go surfing at whitsand. I only live bout 15 miles away but always find myself going to the north coast instead.
What type of longboard was it? I could keep my eyes open for it if i see any for sale.
cheers, driftwood

What kind of a world is this? I feel so sorry for you and your friends. Surf gear is expensive equipment that you grow attached to. I try to be really carefull with my board and stuff when i go surfing, its a mad world out there. I cant believe that someone cut the straps off your mates car and stole his board - thats crazy!!

it was a HIC 9ft sumthin white board with blue stripes down it.
i have no idea why it would get ncked as it was far from good condition! the nose has a dodgey botch repair job so is all black on the underside, and there are millions of dings and stuff,
not annoyed cause it was really expensive or anything, just the fact it got stolen in the first place... and its always good to have a longboard!
gutted.... i think the world's trying to tell me to take up football...

In the USA it's lawful to possess firearms. Thieves seem to understand that when they violate your property they're exposing themselves to being shot and killed.
As an aside, there aren't a lot of shootings and killings, but then too, there aren't a lot of stolen boards and cars being broken into for wetsuits.
We Americans fought a war with you Brits back in 1776 about all this. Seems like in two centuries plus you'd figure out that "an armed society is a polite society."
Sorry, but I don't even lock my truck when I'm out on the beach. There are no thieves because they know better.

Ahhh, the UK and the US - two countries divided by a common language!!
The UK's laws are somewhat outdated.
There was a famous case over here a few years ago where a guy came downstairs in his home to find someone trying to steal his television. He shouted and the burglar turned to run, tripped over and hit his head on the fireplace.
He then sued the owner of the house who had to pay several thousand pounds in damages to the guy who was stealing his TV!!
Or the more famous case where 2 boys broke into a farmhouse and the farmer caught them, threatened them with a shotgun and told them if they came back he'd shoot them.
Anyway they came back, he shot one of them and is now serving a life sentence for murder!
I agree that the law doesn't do much for the victims in this country... BUT we still have per capita a lot less violent crime than the states. Our police officers still don't carry guns as standard.
Gun crime is on the up, but I still feel safer here than in a lot of places in the states I have visited!

...He's out now. It got reduced to manslaughter and a 3 year term, which he'd already served. The UK legal system running as simple and smooth as clockwork as usual...
