Surfing Waves

i just got my first surfboard last week. Its a 7'10 mini mal and its soo sexy.

I dont really know how to look after it. I dont know where is best to keep it?, what to do with it after a session?, does it need to be dry before i store it? how do i know when i need to get dings repaired (yes i have a couple already, even after olny using it twice.)

it would be cool if someone would help me out with these questions and give me any other advice.

Pressure dings (dimples in the glass) that haven't cracked the glass are fine.

If you have any other kind of ding - you should be more careful!!

Generally speaking I come out of the water, put my board in its bag, then drive home and hang it up in the garage. Being wet is not going to damage your board - if it does, someone really needs to shoot the shaper!!

Sounds like you made a good choice for a first board though. Well done!!

Lying in the sun with it, sharing a beer, will soon dry it (er, and melt the wax. Maybe skip this one)

Boards always appreciate love and attention.
But if its getting all cracked, it needs to see a plastic surgeon. If its putting on weight, then see a doctor immediately!

Above all, remember it needs to be exercised regularly and should be taken out as often as possible.

Remember, a board is for life not just for christmas.

Try not to leave your board in the sun cos it will turn yellow.
If you see a ding and are not sure if it has punctured the glass layer then put your mouth to it and suck it - you will be able to suck air and moisture out if it is punctured and if you can't suck anything then its fine to be left alone.
If it is punctured then it needs to be repaired or the foam inside will get soggy and turn yellow and start to delaminate = bad.
Most dings occur whilst the board is out of the water so best keep it in a padded board bag when not in use.

I dont think ill be able to get a VW camper anytime soon. but i do have my trusty toyota corolla complete with a roof rack

If you can build a fully functioning 'sea' with nice peeling left and rights in your garage, then I'm coming to live with you!!

i'll look into it.

if you have dings that are not all jacked up then those are pressure dings, so no worries bout those.
i just wash my board right quick with a hose, then dry it to get the salt off the glass. dont keep it in the sun cause that would suck
