Hello all.

I really need some advice. I managed to get some time off work and am going to go to cornwall wtih my friend to do some surfing. So I need some advice and links or whatever you think will be usefull to me. We both are beginners at surfing. Basically does anyone know any places that we can camp in that is near a good surfing beach in cornwall, in newquay i presume. Also is there going to be places where we can hire board? Please respond. I only have a week before I have holiday from work so need to get sorted. Any replies would be really aprreciated.

In the UK you have a bit of a problem in that most places that get good waves are a bit of a trek from any kind of night life or other activities.

Newquay is a bit unique in that all of the beaches are right in town so it's not uncommon to see someone coming out of Woolworths wearing a full wetsuit and carrying a board.

As for places to hire kit - every other shop in Newquay is a surf shop - you can even buy wetsuits in Safeway there!!

Most of the shops are willing to do a bit of a deal on kit hire - they can be more flexible than advertised on price and times.

I would think Newquay is a good place to start.

Cheers

The best place I would recommend is Hayle/Gwithian, it has great beaches and good waves for the majority of the time, beginners it will be great for imo! You can hire from a shop called Down the Line Surf Shop in Hayle highstreet, great shop with great staff, Last time i went down to Hayle me and my mate spent atleast 500 quid in there! Boards are all 10 quid - 12 quid for a day! so cheap as chips really. They only do Bics as there up range board but for a beginner thats fine, you can also rent wetsuits for 5 quid a day!

For accomadation try beachside.co.uk their great! we stayed in their chalet and it cost 500 quid for 4 of us!! so thats like 125 quid each for a week! Bargain really.. much better then camping, and the beach is literally a stones throw away.

Newquay is very nice but i dont really like the hustle and bustle and prefer just to get on with it... St Ives is a great place, so is penzance!

Hope you have a good time!!

useful Websites..

downthelinesurf.co.uk

beachside.co.uk

Also if you need a surf school, look at G.A.S (Gwithian Academy of Surfing!)
