Rodeo Beach, Marin Headlands

BoMan or any other NorCal surfers . . .

Have any of you surfed this beach, right next to the Marine Mammal Center? It was gorgeous yesterday. Went - without board - with family and dog, and saw surfers all up and down the strand. Little 3-foot waves breaking fairly close in, but people were really having fun. And best thing was that it wasn't absolutely packed with people, either on the beach or in the water. I may try it sometime, even though I'd have felt better if I'd seen one or two rank beginners out there. Did see more than one soft-top, though.

To avoid crowds, I've always looked North to Bolinas, Blackpoint and Mendocino. I've never tried Rodeo but am willing to meet you there this fall. It will have to be in late October or early November as my daughter is expecting her first child around 10/10.

Send a PM when you plan to go and I'll work on moving the "grandpa permission meter" into the green.

Yeah, no more crowded than Bolinas on a Sunday, BoMan. Will take you up on your offer!

And congrats in advance on the grandpa status!

Marin county is a great place to have your legs bitten off by a grumpy grey-suited local...

It's true, but so is just about any place north of Morro Bay. First time I see one, I'm sure I'll re-evaluate my recreational options, but until then . . . merrily I go into the waves, like a lamb to slaughter.
