Do you mean a pad for the whole deck or for the tail?

If for the whole deck - yuck
Whats wrong with wax? Your feet shouldn't be slipping off wax in the middle of the deck.

Or a tail pad...
Yup, they're great
Not only do they let you put lots of pressure on the back foot, but also let you know where your foot is in relation to the tail (or is that just me that needs to be told that?)
As for what type - some of them are 'humped' in the middle, to varying extents, and the back bit (er? Whats that called? Anyone?) comes in different sizes. I find a small 'back bit' is better else it whacks the knee when I pop up :?
Theres not a lot in it - it comes down to personal choice and colour/shape of board, and the shape of your foot etc etc

I used to have a shortboard with full deck grip which was great cos I didn't have a bag for it and it stopped me getting wax on my car seats.

I now have a mini-mal and was debating some deck grip.

I think it looks better without it though!!

It's just a personal choice thing really!!!

Actually a couple of months ago I saw a picture of Mr Slater riding a shortboard with a bright blue front grip pad on. Didn't look like any I recognised (brand wise)not front Gorilla Grip or anything, perhaps a pre-release test product???
But that guy is known to experiment with all sorts of stuff...

I remember reading earlier this year in an interview Taj Burrow saying front grip is an area of surfboard hardware neglected since the 80's. Kinda true when you think about it...if it was developed properly & didn't wear out like previous ones did I'd much prefer it to wax. No dirty slimy mess to scrape off every month or so...

I do have a deck grip and I think they are quite a good idea if you keep your foot right on the tail all the time, but I find I like to move my feet a round the board a bit to get my stance right.

I think it has to be a personal choice though because some people like them and some don't.
