Well sort of, Uncle Jaffa is in the process of moving to Austria so surf news , not so much. But since I haven't surfed the Atlantic yet, Jaffa sightings will increase along the margins of the Atlantic.
My son is keen to show his discoveries in Portugal so hopefully new and happy hunting grounds to express my opinions about.
My Merimbula home is chaos and I am only taking 5 boards. The Bisect, Mango Ganesh, my surftech, my bonzer kneeboard and a SUP. That should cover me while I am there.
Also looking at a French product Notox board with cork surfaces??? The travel adventure begins.

Five boards for a landlocked country ought to do you just fine, Uncle Jaffa!
Actually, I'm curious both about Portugal and about any Austrian adventures (river rapids?), so looking forward to the reports. We're thinking next year, to celebrate our son's (fingers crossed) graduation from college - and the end of the related penury - of taking a big ass vacation to Spain and Portugal.

Well, Jaffa, maybe you make the drive to The Eisbach Fluss in Munich. Go to the Englischer Garten and past the bridge near the Haus der Kunst art museum. There you'll find the 1 meter standing wave suitable for surfing.

I already know about the Eisbach in Munich, there a number of similar river waves in Austria and Switzerland, several tidal bore expeditions are planned. My Fantasy book will get written! All good, maybe even meeting more forumites in Europe?

(not sure about this final Wort)

Sounds like a cool trip! We are still in France for two more weeks, then back home and will have to cope with the shallow windswell dominated North Sea until March 2018

Should you get to Munich, you can maybe also try the citywave at the airport.

You could simply say "korrekturlesen"

Looks like an ICBM is going to happen. Intercontinental board meeting , Billy Jaffa and Oldie already intrajectory.
Unfortunately most of the standing waves are shortboardish, but a good take off jump from the bank or release of the rope sets you up so no paddle nonsense. But I hear there is some localism

Are you moving permanently? I mean, Austria is nice enough but its not Merimbula! Probably better schnitzel and strudel, but no chiko rolls

Thanks , got the Severn Bore and the Mascaret in my sights. Portugal and Spain sit on my horizons too. I will be posting my whereabouts as I go and maybe meet some forumites. The European campaign will, probably begin in 2018 after settling die Wohnung.
I have a Secret SUP program in mind too more about that later.
Maybe too a meet up with the inner works of the forum?

Actually closer to reality than you think, the Shoaling banks in the Attersee, throw a wave slightly bigger than that when die Dampfer steams past ( the steam ferry) . But smaller than your wall PM!
But I will not use that speed crouch nor a claim!

I've surfed Peniche in Portugal. Went there twice, the food and swell is amazing. Water is cold during the winter and really drains your energy fast with a 4/3. The are many surf spots catered to each type of wind/swell so you could surf 365 days a year. There are also many unexplored spots.
Supertubos is also the first spot where I didn't get in the water despite of perfect condition. It is a beach break but when you have double overhead waves breaking on top of the sandbank, I'm not risking my neck.
Nazare is also I believe 30-40 mins drive.
The Portuguese also seems to love having a spliff before getting in the wtaer.

good people!
Aren't there some mellow breaks very near Nazarre? I remember reading about it. I'd love to watch Nazarre - from the cliffs -and then surf somewhere nearby and claim I surfed Nazarre

We could meet in Andalusia around Easter

Sound like a very interesting plan, it is time that Austrias secret spots will be discovered. All the best for your logistics!

They told me that Nazare in summer is overrun by surf school. You only get the big swell during winter storm. So you could go there on a small winter/spring day and surf it before the storm!
