Hey all...I've taken an interest in surfing and i'm going to go to a surfing camp so I can try it out. I've hung with friends that went surfing, and they showed me a few things, but if I went in the water, I know I would wipe out :( So i'm going to enlist the pros! :D

My question is:
Alright, I'm a beginner, I'm about 5'3 and weigh 120 pounds...I wanted to get a fun board, but a website I looked on said that isn't really too good for beginners and said that a longboard is the best thing to start with. On this site, it said the longer the better...Is a long board the ideal beginner's board? If so what size should I look for?

Thanks all <3 :P

If I had unlimited cash I would buy a longboard first (but that's £600 gone straight away)

Once I'd got the hang of that, I'd move down to a mini-mal (there goes another £400)

Then I'd get a shortboard too (Boom, another £300)

So there's your first £1300 gone and you haven't even got a wetsuit yet!!

REALISTICALLY I would go for a mini-mal because it'll be big enough to learn on and small enough to progress on. It's the most cost-effective option!

Cheers

Sinista

Yeah, I agree with Sinista. A mini mal is definitely the way to go. On the advice of a local legend in my city, I got myself a mini mal. As a beginner I find it's easy to learn with and just basically have all out fun.
