Anyone ever heard about or used Surfer's Ear Remedy?
I just found out I have surfers ear in my left ear, but not too bad yet. I found a site which claims to have a remedy that will stop the bone building up further and may even reduce the build up. Sounds a bit suss tho

. US$22.50 to find out for myself - I am thinking of getting some but what do you guys reckon?

They make drops for swimmers ear that you can buy at the pharmacy. All you do is put a few drops in each ear after you get out of the water. It has an alcohol base which evaporates the water.

I just got over it. It's not all that bad, you get a buildup of puss in your ear and your ear cartilage is very sensitive and painful if touched. It took about a week to clear up.

I'm going to see my GP today cos I can't hear anything in my left ear due to inflamation from me trying to get water out of it (been there 3 days now).
I am going to try that Surfer's Remedy, you never know and it can't make it any worse. I'll keep you all posted as to if it works.

You guys are talking about two different things. Swimmers ear which is basicly an ear infection and Surfers ear which is actually called Exostosis. I had the drilling operation six weeks ago and was out of the water for five weeks. They sliced the back of my ear open then drilled out the excess bone then they took a skin graft from my arm and replaced the old streched out skin in my ear with it.

My ear works great now.

There is quite alot of feedback from a prior post on this subject check it out.

Same as Swimmers ear.. Bone/cartilage growth that slowly closes your ear canal due to mainly cold water. Generally creates more liklyhood of infections from dirt etc being trapped in there.

No.... Surfers Ear is bony growth within the earcanal that is caused by exposure to the cold and the wind (medical term Exostosis). This causing narrowing which results in trapped water, trapped debris and infections etc.. eventually (in really bad cases) it may require surgery to re-open the earcanal...... Swimmers Ear is completely different, swimmers ear is inflamation of the skin lining of the earcanal caused by bacterial infection.. typically produces painful ear infections. In the UK and colder climes then surfers ear is most common, in the tropics and warm water environments then swimmers ear is more prevalent as the toxins in the water (especially over reefs) are much higher... If you have surfers ear and then surf in the tropics then your most likely to end up with some nice infections!!....

I surf On the eastern coast of South Africa, so its pretty warm and so far only two infections in two years...Havnt got one this year yet (touch wood), but I rate you get used to it hey.
But I have the miricle cure! Brewn in the darkness of the mongolian dungeons! Left for 7 months 4 days and 2hours exacly to mature! Only of the strictest ingrediants!....wait for it wait for it....wait for it....DRY YOUR EARS AFTER EVERY SURF SESSION!!!!

. Seriously its not hard and I mean do it properly, not just a little wiggle with your finger. Stuff your towel down there! Its the only way I can insure that I dont get infections. I know you guys will tell me that you do that but honestly the average surfer/swimmer doesnt do it all the way, proper, dry as rusk thing.
I hate going to the doctor when I get the infection because he tells me I cant surf for 2 weeks and I hate it! So I take extra care in drying my ears PROPERLY....Prevention is always better than cure

good advice surfaMIKE but most of us guys in the UK with narrowed ear canals due to surfer ears couldn't get a mouse's bathmat in them if we tried!!....
