Beginner Looking for a shortboard

Postby nycvr6 » Tue Jun 21, 2005 5:19 pm

Hi,
I am looking to get into surfing and i would like to purchase a shortboard. I am 5'6" 165 lbs. I would like to get something that i would be able to use for a few years. I have used rentals (foam ones) and borrowed friends, but have never owned my own. Any advice on size, brands, type would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I understand that and appreciate the advice, but the boards i have previously used, the foam which was long, and my friends which was short 6'4" i think, i was able to ride both. The long was easier of course, but i like the maneuverability and the convenience of a smaller board (transporting wise). I have my mind pretty set on getting a shorter board, so id appreciate a little advice. Thanks

I'm 5'2" 130 lbs and started with a 6'4". Took a week to stand up and a few more weeks to get comfortable. So now I ride a 5'10". Maybe a 6'4" would be good for you and work your way down? Too many people here always say get a longboard first. Psh, you can learn on a shortboard, it just takes effort.

That is how i feel, based on riding both a short and long before, i can learn on either, it is just a little more difficult on a short. I figured i would start with a 6'3" or 6'4". Any recommendations on brands? Thanks

I figured it was only a matter of time before you'd post something like that, ive been scanning through all the posts on the forums. :D

Anyone know anything about klein boards? My buddy has a nice mint custom klein 6'4" he is willing to sell to me for real cheap. Here's a link: kleinsurfboards.com/ thanks
