My favorite time of day to head out and hit up the surf has to be early morning so i can beat all the other surfers in the water and have some waves to myself and there tends to be less wind in the morning. But on the other hand i love to surf while the sun is setting its just so beutiful :P

I'd have to say evening, cos I've never done an early morning one yet...on the cards though... :)

Is it just me or would you not class 10am - 3pm as afternoon and any time after 5pm evening?

Either earlies or evening sessions are best but earlies maybe just have the edge as its not about to get dark just as the waves pick up. But then again earlies are pretty f early so maybe a draw after all!

If the surf is pumping... A dawn session wins.

If its a bit more mellow... A sunset session wins :D

Totally depends on the spot. I tend to love the early mornings, as it's usually off shore wind, and less people in the water. I hate getting up, though. Around noon the wind tend to change, side shore or on shore, and as for the evening it's usually mellow but crowded.

I'd love to surf far north during the summer. I'm talking midnight sun- north... Haven't done that yet.

best sessions is have an early one when little or no people are out an then get out when it gets busy and chill on the beach all day and then in the evenin when the beach is emptying and lifegaurds are packin up and then surf for 3 or 4 hours and watch the sun start to set 8) (usually in school holiday time that is )

ive been midnight surfing on a full moon one time but the only way i could see the wave coming is seeing a light off a boat in the bay and when the wave neard closer i wouldnt be able to see the light anymore. that had to be the coldest ive ever been when i got out of the water but it was definatly worth it.

I went for a night sesh last night. From about 6 pm to 10 pm. Scarrier then hell. I saw a few little blacktips but nothing really big. Maybe its worse that i didnt see them..
But yeah, its really fun to surf at night. I couldnt get any of my friends to go with me so i was all by myself.

Night sessions are fun, cos your depth perception goes to pot!

You don't see the wave coming until it's on top of you and then you have to paddle like mad.

Surfing in thick fog is also interesting!! (New Years Day 2000 - Polzeath Cornwall!)

One day in august at Puts last year - Dense fog, so thick you couldnt see the shore, but a headhigh glassy clean wave

Everyone was wandering (and paddling) around in a daze 'cos it was like surfing something out of a film :D

The best time to surf, for me is at about 5:05am. no one s in the kineups,no matter where you are, the water is at a reat temperature, and the water coonditions are smooth as ever 8) . My spot is Trestles, in Caliofrnia. My vote is for the morning, hands down. Check out Barreled.com and see whats in store for you as a surfer :!: :!:
