surfing with glue stitches

Postby Vent » Sun Jun 18, 2017 3:37 pm

I got a wound on my head about 9 days ago from a surfboard. the doctor treated it with skin glue.
he recommended not getting in the water for 2 weeks, but I really want to surf.
what do you guys recommend? the wound looks good and it is being healed..
thanks

Take the time to heal , open the wound it will be messier and at risk of infection if it opens up.
It is entirely your call, advising against a doctor's advice is not a good call for anyone on the forum to make!

I had a cyst removed from my back and the doctor said no swimming for a month. I said "A MONTH!!! I'll be dead by then" The doctor looked at me and after a few seconds said "Are you a surfer?" I say "Yes" totally not amazed that she guessed that I was a surfer. Then she said "well in that case stay out for 2 weeks then use a waterproof bandage for 2 more weeks. I am not saying you should use one just that it might help if you talk to your doctor about it
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

In Waikiki, a reef break, on a longboard, I've gone for 3-4 hour sessions without getting my hair wet. Don't know your situation, but if it's on a shortboard in dumping beach break, I wouldn't. ( especially after a rain storm )

Just curious, where this happened?
Btw. if you're surfing in the tropics you must be more carefull with infection prevention.

I would totally ignore the doctor's guidelines and ask random strangers online if I could circumvent the doctor's recommendation and still have a sense of approval....

C'mon, be serious! Follow your doctor's advice. There will always be waves.

HAHA, I'm from israel... we dont get waves to often, 3 feet every 2 weeks something like that.
okay so its summer here and the water is less polluted than in winter. the wound looks okay(formed a scab and looks like a regular wound already) so ill get a sesh. im planning to surf with a waterproof bandage and the waves are small so the probability of getting injured is really small. I got the wound from a kook that didn't know how to duckdive... ugh
Thx for the replies !
