These aren't tidal bores thought. These guys paddle into huge stopper waves and face against the flow of the river, basically it means that the waves they are riding never really end as they are just the flow of the river.

I think they're nutcases!!

I reckon that's why they've all got helmets on.

If you do fall here you could get washed up a mile downstream!!

The idea of a never ending wave is great, but the prospect of having to dodge things like trees and dead sheep floating downstream and the chances of dying if you wipe out kinda put me off!!

personally, i hate it.. I mean i know i cant judge something i havent tried, but i absolutely hate the surf pools and river surfing.
Reason? Id hate all the action for media and everything to go there as if thats really surfings 'future' (even tho i cant imagine the action going there, even tho the guy on the site thats where everything is gonna be in 5 years)
I also dont like it because it kinda takes away from natural surfing.. river surfing is natural i guess but pools are so fake.. your completely taking away everything, the beautiful ocean, taking ur vacation to the beach and things like that. It just wont be as good.
ALSO, I cant imagine it being as fun in general, in real surfing ur actually moving.. I guess u kinda get the feel in rivers and pools, but u only feel the water passing u, ur not going anywhere. Idk, I just dont like it at all -

Personally I wouldn't want to try it, but it looks amazing!!

I would also like to know the answer to the question, what happens when you wipe out! :?

Generally speaking when you wipe out you either get held under in the stopper wave until you drown or you get sucked down stream, struggling to keep your head above water as you watch your board smash into little pieces against the rocks, you then get your leash caught in a shopping trolley that someone's dumped and die a slow and painful death in the fast current!!

Sorry, was that a little synical?
