Found this Youtube video of Kainoa McGee explaining the Pecking Order out in the surf ( and other sports / life ) and also how Fear can be positive or negative.

Yes, Kainoa is most well known for the fight out at Pipeline, but I've known him for decades. He is a true Waterman and Lifeguard. I know there will be negative comments about him, but please listen to some good advice about surfing in Hawaii ( or anywhere else in the world )

Being conscious and having awareness for others and your ability is something we all can be better at sometimes.

Sure. There are so many aspects of surfing that we can strive to improve. It's not just riding waves. We have to catch the waves so we need to be able to judge them when and where to go. If there are people around we need to take them into consideration when making these decisions. It is a solo sport but you still have to accommodate others. I try to work on all aspects of my surfing when ever I surf but I am striving to improve my surfing and not just out to sit in the lineup and soak in some rays. When I surf around others I still make some mistakes...maybe because I surf alone so much but I try to focus on being fair to the other surfers and find ways to share the waves with them even if they aren't particularly trying to share waves with me.
