CA Camping and Surfing Guide

Postby TravelinLight » Thu Apr 06, 2017 2:15 am

Good evening,

First post, hope this has not been covered. I am looking for a guide or website that has information on camping in CA on the beach or very close to the beach for Surfing. I have an older Camper Conversion 4x4 I would like to plan a trip to CA for a surf vacation. I would basecamp out of the vehicle to include sleeping and food preparation. It is a Land Rover so access is not a concern. (Reliability maybe so)

There is a guide to Baja which I really enjoyed, but I would like to make a US tour first.

Something that covers different locations without having to be the secret locals spot as I am a beginner at best, moderate on my great days.

Has someone compiled a list, written a book, documented on a blog?

Thank you,

Sean

get this book:
"Surfing California - A complete guide to the best breaks on the California Coast," written by Guisado and Klaas and published by Falcon Guide

In addition, please run searches in our forum. You will not be disappointed.

Pismo State Beach. In the summer you can drive down the beach and camp in front of where you want to surf. There is a hum from all the off roaders but the surf is not crowded.

Thanks for the book suggestion and the park name. I'll put those on my list.

Update, Amazon has the book new for 55.00 but eBay had a used copy for under 10.00.

Cannot wait for it to get here. The wife is planning a trip for us to Puerto Rico which should help with the surfing bug and would be another country to cross off the bucket list.

Hey Travelin',
I buy nearly everything used: surf boards, motorcycles, sport utility vans, guitars, CDs, and much more. Hope you went for the used book because I would have!
