Nice sentiments but instead of raging against the fading light I choose to ignore it and continue doing what I want to do. Instead of letting others expectations of me keep me from doing what I want and trying to not let my own expectations keep me from doing what I want to do I will just keep plugging ahead and see how far I can go.

Well said. On my 66th birthday I was feeling melancholic about slowing down. My popup, paddling and balance aren't what they used to be, and no amount of training can bring them back. That said, there are many guys my age in the lineup and there's still a lot of fun to be had. It's best to get to it!

I've the greatest of respect for 60+ surfers who still get wet on a regular basis. Great!

Happy Birthday! Just a tip, you might be surprised by how much changes in your diet can affect the way you feel. If you're feeling adventurous, experiment with some different things and see if they change how you feel.

Big H has posted good advice...
I'm eating low fat, high protein and low carb . I take in some carbs or other natural sugars like whole fruits, but I go easy on both of those. I stay off refined sugars, juices, and pretty much any drink that comes in a bottle I drink coffee, tea, water and about 250ml of Gatorade 300-400ml before surfing for cramps....if I'm feeling low before a surf I have a banana, but generally like to exercise hungry with a very empty stomach (dawn patrols no eating before and afternoon surfs I skip lunch).

and I'm working to boost metabolism which naturally slows down with age...

My biggest challenge is cutting back on the carbs. Back in the day when I ran marathons, carbo loading was a delicious way to prepare and I've never given it up. Old habits die hard!

I hope I'd be in good shape enough to keep on surfing into the retirement age like you. Happy B-day, BoMan!
