I never eat before dawn patrols or before surfing in general....I do load up on liquids. You just need to get some fitness in your life....lots of surfing will bring that. Surfing is alot of work!

i've bounced around between morning surf eating but generally come down to

- lots of liquids which I often mix with an electrolyte mix (probably drink 1 - 1.5l, but (a) I'm big and (b) this is for Australian summer when it can be 25C at 8am and (c) I am prone to cramps)
- sometimes adding protein powder to the drink (dont know if it adds much but I have it in the cupboard so I just add it in)
- a banana

But really what you eat beforehand is only going to be a minor thing in terms of how you feel in the surf (although I imagine eating a 5 course meal probably will not make you feel good). Its mostly fitness. And if you are tired, go 15m out the back and just sit there for a while.
