Could you please check the pic and tell how big the wave is. Unfortunately, no video. As my memory card got damaged and the pic survived because I sent it to smb else.

I don't see any way to tell how big the wave is from that picture so somewhere between head high to 20 feet :)

The forecast was 4-8+!
And that was the biggest during my session.

So let me ask you this. Doesn't your gopro get broken off when it gets tangled in your leash? Do you have a safety line for the gopro and a resin and glass attachment on the board next to the mount?

The case got broken on another day when a guy sliced the camera with his board. I did not realise before it got water damaged. I have Best Buy warranty/insurance and another camera. So, in the end of the day only the card is terminally damaged. I did not have enough iPhone memory to download the video and got only the pic planning to download the video later. Anyway it was 6 second ride:)

How long is your board in that picture? Is the nose of the board in the trough of the wave in that pic? Looks like it might be about head high to 2 feet overhead, but who knows without being able to see the base of the wave. Did you slow yourself down and get covered up?

It's hard to tell the size of that wave, not seeing all f it. But it could be until 8ft (Magicseaweed sizing). But whatever the size, it sure is a nice picture!

It looks the sort of wave that to do it justice should have been shot from the beach or a water angle to show its true size. GoPros are on the nose are totally inadequate for showing size, they flatten everything out.
Camera and card repairs now
Looked like a good wave.

Hard to say but my guess would be 4ft (head height) you're crouched over and looks like the board is about to turn before hitting the trough so likely around head height.
Solid work given your prior posts not
Too long ago!

Also as a side note, just because the forecast says 4-8ft doesn't mean the smallest wave will be 4ft and the biggest will be 8ft. That will be the average forecasted range- there will always be lulls of smaller sets and rogue clean up sets at least 1-2ft bigger than the max forecast.

The board is 8.2.
And thanks for your input

probably 4ft.
My camera on the nose (not a Go-Pro) makes 2ft waves look like 4ft waves :)

although watch this video - the first 20 seconds are from the go pro and try to guess how big the waves are

then the next part is from the shore on the same waves...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJUYzA5 ... e=youtu.be

if you watch until 1.15 it gets interesting

Whoa that is fascinating! Poor guy!

Looked about 10ft from the shore and 2 ft from his view haha.
Only different to the original post is that the go pro was pointed towards the surfer instead of towards the wave like in the video

It was the biggest wave I experienced that session. So, it should be bigger than 4.
Another thing that confuses me a lot is inconsistency between magicseaweed and Surfline. At least for LA I found Surfline more reliable. And the actual waves turn out to be bigger than magicseaweed forecasts. Having used only magicseaweed for a long, I feel that my perception of the waves is not that accurate.

Socal definitely had a great november, I wouldn't be surprised if the wave was 6 feet. I went out on all the bigger days here in HB and the current was stupidly strong. I would get in at 9th street and get dragged to the pier, while constantly paddling. December on the other hand is shaping up to be less than desirable.. where are the waves?! That being said, I think surfline usually over estimates numbers and conditions.

No idea how big it is but considering go pros make 4ft wave look like knee high and a 40ft wave look like it's 10ft(take a look at Kai Lennys gopro videos), I'd say I believe you, but yeah you should try and get someone to take pictures from the beach it looks so much cooler

Would agree November waves were great and December is almost flat. Huntington is notorious for strong currents! I Remember being washed to the beach where unleashed event was held. I was lying exhausted when numerous unleashed dogs approached

Haha that's awesome, I live at 9th and PCH and drove by the event while having no idea what was going on. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and watched some of the footage :)

It was not pleasant for me at all:) got into impact zone to get wiped out several times. And the current did not let me get out of it. Hardly made it to the shore! And then big dogs were running with sharp teeth on display:) and I wouldn't be able to resist their attacks. Almost xxxxx my wetsuit and tried to crawl back to the currents.
