Waxing your board

I am a surfer who loves a lot of wax on his board. I compulsively wax my board every time I go out and often only completely rewax my board once, maaaybe twice a year.

My brother in law is completely different, often going several sessions without any rewaxing. He entirely rewaxes his board every month or two as well. How often do you guys throw wax on? And how often do you completely rewax your boards?

I wax the worn spots every time I go out. I scrape it all off and redo once it gets too much dirt or sand in the wax. If I don't rewax every time the worn spots will get less and less wax and eventually become bare spots. It's difficult to just build up wax in two areas, one is where my chest rubs and the other is where my butt rubs when I am sitting. The rest of the board could go a long time

It really depends...I wax when a comb isn't gettung it done.. bare spots and quick topcoat if wax meted a bit in the car. I should do fresh wax more often but in the end as long as I am not slipping off its all good.

Get front foot traction. I use it on all my boards now. Pro-lite makes great stuff. Looks silly, but you never have to wax your board again...

You will also never need to make an appointment for chest hair removal either.
( reminds me of the 40 year old virgin movie scene, YOWWW ! Kelly Clarkson !!!! )

I've been thinking about getting some verasurf grip to put at the nose and front rails of my mini mal, where I grab it for turtle rolls or when I'm walking out (I usually hold the nose rather than the tail). Sometimes I remember to wax these spots; sometimes I realise too late I havent

Definitely a cold water only solution!

I've never used a front foot traction pad, I've heard they tear through wetsuits though. Any truth to this?

I think on rougher traction this might be the case, but on the prolite I never had this problem. I'm not shilling them or anything. Octopus traction is pretty good too. Links to both

Pricier than wax, but I think a pretty good investment in the long run, in that you won't get pressure dings, and consequently your board will have better resale value.

Ok, now it really sounds like I work for them!

....save for the fact that it has a front traction pad or shadows left there from it....I'd be.hard pressed to resell a board with those on it no matter how good they are.

Didn't consider that. Good point.

It's a matter of preference, really. The reason i started using them is quite amusing: I used to wax my boards inside my apartment before dawn patrols, so as to avoid having to do it in the middle of winter at the beach (I live quite far north). The noise from waxing used to wake my girlfriend up! Nothing quite like being shouted at at 4 in the morning.

Does anybody else have any stories of relationship discord as a result of their passion for surfing?
