Surfing Waves

I'm not sure if I'm the only one but I don't like Medinas surfing style, it always looks like he's trying to beat up a wave instead of riding it, he's too aggressive in his surfing I like atheletes that make surfing look easy like John John Florences style, he's laidback but competitive which I love, what do you guys think about medina and which atheletes style do you like most?

I dunno.....it looks good to me....made the most out of the last wave.....

isn't that why they call surfers from Brazil "Brazzos"?

and all his interferences... I think it is a very consistent picture.

I like his surfing but not his personality. He has incredible talent but I don't think I would care to know him in real life

I don't like the guy as well. But do remember he is very young and I'm sure if I was as successful as him at that age, I would probably act worse than that.

I don't like his orange hair and the nasty things he says about women........... errr........ sorry wrong guy.
Look at how many famous actors and celebrities that are total jerks, but we pay to see their movies. Yes, people may not like his "claiming" or his interviews, but he has got skills in the water.

Do any of the disliking come from personal experience or the media and video portrayal?
Do anyone know his backstory?
Certainly it is easy to dislike someone's surfing style but that my friends is an opinion.
To be a surf star do you need an ego yes!
Nat Young the original was quite disliked because of his acerbic attitude, Tom Carroll was noted as a serial drop in or a frother for every wave, back stories explained some of the behaviours we didn't like.
Watch out for stereotyping.

It may appear as though he is smashing the wave but to do what he does, he has to make a judgement as to whether the wave will allow him to do that maneuver at that point in the wave. So he isn't really smashing the wave. He can only do what the wave allows. So he not only has the physical skill to do the maneuvers but he also has the knowledge of when to do what.

What I'm trying to say is it always looks like he's angry when surfing, not that he is but it always looks like it, his turns and manoeuvres are too aggressive for my liking
