Teahupoo here i come?!

Postby BaNZ » Wed Oct 05, 2016 1:25 pm

What's the chances of meeting a cool Taihitian surfer in NY and getting invited to stay at their place for Xmas!

Sadly I declined as I know my limits and don't want to be the first kook to kill himself on a reef break at Tahiti.

Though I might be tempted to just fly there and see Teahupoo in my own eyes.

Teahupoo isn't the only break in Tahiti. I am sure there are some sand breaks there as well. What was that one from Endless Summer, Ins and Outs? Anyway I am sure you wouldn't be going out at teahupoo on a day big enough to kill you...but it may make you resemble raw hamburger. Very cool though. Tahitians I have met are very nice and friendly people.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Yeah I asked the guy and he said it isn't the only break but most of them are for shortboards and not beginner friendly. He says the paddle out is far and a lot of them need to go via boat. He also goes spearfishing with the sharks... which is not my cup of tea.

They have that barrier reef and lagoon thing happening on older islands as they start to sink back into the ocean. Surrounding most of the island is a lagoon bordered by a huge reef that goes way out. The waves break outside of that huge reef except for areas where the reef isn't developed in which case waves may break near shore like most places. Fish love lagoons and so do sharks .
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
