Weird question

Are epoxy boards more slippery than poly/fiberglass? I've noticed my epoxy board requires a lot more wax than the fiberglass ones I've ridden, but maybe that's because the epoxy was new and the fiberglass old?
I've been curious. Has anyone else noticed this?

Molded-epoxy boards have a paint layer or top sheet that is more smooth than the sanded fiberglass layer on poly/PU boards. I find the wax peels up on the edges like fried eggs more on molded-epoxy. There are many types of epoxy/eps boards manufacturing methods. There is also gloss polish finish on poly/PU boards.
I recommend go one down in wax temperature.

Did you apply a base coat wax to your board?

I find my wax goes on in chunks, but I think that's because I use Mrs. Palmers. (It's also WHY I use Mrs Palmers.) I often find that when I'm surfing I'll notice an area without wax, so I'll grab a glop of one spot and smush it to where I need it. LOL

I only have poly boards and I get bare spots like you've mentioned... and I just smear a little glob of wax as well. But I wear booties most of the time since my local break is partly rock bottomed, so I can be really lax about waxing.
