Hey Guys this is abit of a random question but here goes. I live in Belfast and you have to travel a good distancve to find the ocean but I really love the water and i attend the gym regularly, they also have a swimming pool (heres my point now!) Do you think if in a swimming pool you should wear Goggles because of the Chlorine or is it better to get used to the water for when you are in the ocean later in years too come as some of the places im hopeing to visit are pretty deep waters and you cant wear goggles out there? Any advice wil be great, many thanks. James

Chlorine = bleach = toxic

Eyes = very precious and get enough grief when you're surfing.

Wear goggles QED

:lol:

Wear goggles in the pool dude, as it won't help getting eyes stung in the saltwater later - might as well save pain when possible.

No, water in pools and water in the ocean are totally different things. Ocean = natural, pool = chemical fest.

Defo use goggles in pool otherwise you won't last longer than 30min before your eyes burn up and you can't see bugger all. I don't have my eyes open when surfing and I go under, mainly because it's north east coastline in uk and not the cleanest right now so wouldn't see much anyway. I've never worn goggles to surf... :roll:

I remember my eyes stung like buggery (did I say that right?) the first 3 or 4 times I went surfing but I must have gotten used to it or something because they don't bother me now at all... hmmm but I am also more used to just being in the ocean and sort of going with the flow so perhaps I'm closing my eyes in time? Maybe it was my sunblock? Who knows... I do know that if I saw someone surf with goggles it would totally make my day and I'd have to submit it to kook_of_the_day
on Insta haha

Hey Rachael, How's things? I grew up in the ocean and to me both saltwater and fresh water presented similar discomfort. Don't know why. Maybe because as a male kid we weren't supposed to show pain? Neither of them bothered me...... chlorinated swimming pool? Fresh mountain stream? Ocean? all the same.......... I could swim under water with my eyes open in all those conditions but maybe eyes less red after swimming in mountain stream. For a while I wore Polaroid goggles surfing in an attempt to keep my eyes protected from the sun but after loosing a couple pair I gave up.

Hey man, things are good, thanks! I could be surfing more, but ya know...life. Maybe a trip when it gets too cold here. I was soooo close to moving to SoCal recently actually, but it fell through. Will likely try for it again next summer. Anyway, that's a good point about the polarized eye protection! I guess if you want that while surfing, goggles are the way to go, or sunglasses with one of those goofy sports bands, but I think those look even worse! 8)

Hey bro,

You are just comparing natural things to a chemical. Ocean water is natural and pure without any chemical. So cures your eyes and on the other side chlorine can damage your eyes. So there no comparison, it's a totally different thing. So It's a request wear goggles and keep your eyes safe because eyes is also a gift of nature, so it is priceless. Hope it would help.
Thanks!
