Another reason why Hawaiian's compete as their own nation on the WSL.

Well that depends if your trimming along the waves faces or riding straight in the soup.

Look up Mickey Munoz Quasimodo, that was cool.

Pmcaero - do you stand on your surfboard like the way Sup riders do ?

Here is the late Kevin the Head Brennan in 1965 with what was then know as the bicycle stance, a neat way to trim across a wave :D

He wasa great young surfer then but died before his promise reached adulthood.

Well the answer to the question is ......... the surfer is going Frontside. His right arm is ripping behind his back so hard to twist the body and turn the board up the face. Here's another photo that is easier to see.

The surfer's name is Zack Meyers, A local Waikiki Beach Boy / surf instructor. Everyone calls him "Maui Zack".

This shot shows the same back hand swing. A Frontside bottom turn has the same mechanics like a Backside Cut back ( or here, a finishing move to a Round House cutback )

Yeah and see how he torques his upper body to face about where he wants to after the turn. If you were making a backside bottom turn you might just do that to see the wave but to go up into the lip frontside you have to torque beyond what you need to see the wave frontside. I am pretty sure this is why I find it easy to go vertical backside but more work to do it frontside.
