Hi! I'm a beginner surfer who lives in NYC and was hoping to find some mates who can join me out in the water. I don't have any friends who know how to surf or even want to learn so I'm stuck with heading to SUPER expensive lessons in Rockaway. I really wish to meet new people that would be able to help me improve my form and skill. If any of you guys wish to meet and catch some waves please shoot me a reply! I really want to head out to the beach soon! Thanks!

Sure. I'm moving to NYC probably next month and will be surfing at Rockaway. It would be nice to get to meet some surfers. I'm really addicted to surfing so you will most likely see me there every weekend if there are any surfable waves.
Drop me a PM with the contact details. I believe there is also another NYC surfer on the forum here. Will see if we can get together and surf.

Moving to New York? Sounds exciting and it won't be full of English people so bonus! Although just in time for the election; at least you can get a laugh out of it

For sure the surf would be better than the Norfolk coast of UK.
Yeah about the election....it really concerns me that Trump has so many supporters. Doing my own research, it doesn't sound like Hillary is a good candidate either. It's all going downhill. But hey it's not like it is any better in UK. At least there will be surf in New York.

Whenever I hear the election, a frown appears on my face..
Anywho I'm a surfer who lives on LI but I live near NYC as well...never been to rockaway tho heard it's rather crowded.
There's some beaches you should check out but youll need a car. Not that far depending where you live in the city and TBH with traffic it might be faster...

Thanks guys! I have a car so getting to Long Island isn't that much of a hassle, what beaches are best for beginners and isn't as crowded?

they all are lol. No lineup too prepare to get run over. No seriously...
Gilgo is nice, you can surf at robert moses and lido beach and longbeach also has a surfing crowd. Once it gets a little colder out the crowd will die..so I hope you have a wetsuit.

BaNZ, it's usually like this: the presidential election is most likely the lessor of two evils. Simply status quo. See? Nothing to worry about.
