http://www.theinertia.com/surf/5-9-is-the-optimal-height-for-a-surfer-aka-short-people-rule-surfing/ It seems there have been only 2 World Champions over 6 foot tall (Andy Irons and Joel Parkinson). I am 6'2" ... that's my excuse. What's yours?

Haha! At 5'7" the hook for me was...
Dream no longer, my stunted friends, because I am here to offer you hope!

Oh cr*#p, that means I should be a good surfer. Better luck next time! :D

Shorter height leads to lower levels of education, lower job status, and less income.

So does surfing...

The other benefit of being short is that you can surf 'head high' waves that to me are only 'chest high'.

The problem is short guys don't float and sharks prefer short dudes (less struggle). At 5'11" I got the best of both worlds.

Pfft, I wish. At my last check up I was 158 cm or about 5'2". When I won my first noseriding contest, some of the other competitors complained I won only because I was Small and Light. Funny, I didn't hear you guys complaining at Football and Basketball try outs.

All my excuses are rooted in jealousy.....waves are always better for the smaller guys....groms rip on waves that will barely support me....no matter how good the waves are, it's always better for a smaller guy....

I will say that I feel the field levels a little sometimes when smaller guys are duck diving every wave and I can just put my head down and plow through.....

....but just a little.... :)

My "dark side" enjoys watching big guys surf small waves on short boards. The paddle battles are epic!

6 strokes and I'm up....that might be good. :D

I'm 6', built like a brick s#1thouse, and currently un-surf-fit... that's my excuse

I have a friend, and she's 5' and about 40kg... a tiny tiny little person, and ripped with muscle... and goddamit, she's out there surfing on waves that plain old physics says I'm not going to be able to surf. Tiny gutless little waves that aren't even breaking... yup, she's up and ripping :bang:

...then the big stuff comes along... and she still whips my butt!... she's had 20 times as many waves as I had in the last week 'cos she can surf the small stuff, and she's ready to go, while wobbler-boy here has to get his surf mojo going again! :blah:

Dude, your 5'0 "friend" is probably hott as hell also, since she surfs. If it was me, I'd make sure it is a friends with benefits type of deal, or turn it into one right quick. Then you can be riding her and not worrying about how much better she shreds waves than you.
That's just my two cents worth tho. :)

You should switch over to Sticky Bumps, cause it seems you been sniffing too much Sex wax.

At that size its not surfing, its just snowboarding (with an avalanche). Go straight down and as fast as possible and try not to fall over.

Keeping in mind that I would be at least 500m from the shoreline in the direction of the land if I even saw a wave that size.
