You - Hello Rando!
Me - I... I'm 34 years old, and have never ridden a surfboard.
You - *Gasp, yells of anger, taunting*
Admin - It's okay Rando, the first step is to admit that you have a problem...

Howdy all,
I've been lurking for a bit and registered today to answer a person's post on Mountainboarding. I want to learn to suf. Here's my story:
Not sure if I'm your typical first time poster. 34 years old, male, 5'9", about 160 lbs, American. Snowboarded for about 12 years, Mountainboarded for about 4, Wakeboarded a little. Always wanted to surf but never got around to trying it cause I live on the East Coast USA (NJ) and don't trust the ocean until I get down south where it's cleaner & warmer. Excellent swimmer (live on a lake) and in great shape, just never surfed.
Every year I do a few Snowboarding trips to Colorado, Utah, Canada. I want to mix some water into this. In the Fall I'm getting laid off and getting a year's severance package. So part of my "Year of Rando" will be to learn how to surf. Best case scenario would have me going to an island for a pure surfing trip, where I joined a camp, all equipment was provided to me, and nobody minded that I was a complete n00b, but hopefully a quick learner. Also looking for a group/place that was into having a good time while not riding the waves. Room, food, all that jazz.
So I'll continue to lurk and try to soak up what I can. Just wanted to say "Hi" and introduce myself. Appreciate the insight I've received so far, and if you have any feedback on the above, please don't hesitate to comment.
Thanks much,
Rando
