Looking for best beginner spot in San Diego

Postby Sandiegosurf » Sat Mar 26, 2016 2:47 am

I live in San Diego and have been surfing tourmaline for over a year now and the waves here are either really good or just extremely bad. I looked online and everybody is saying tourmaline is good for beginners, ( a lot of long boarders ride here ). But i might as well ask here on this forum if anyone that lives in San Diego that knows of a beach that is good for a newbie. I'm looking for small open faced waves that break at around neck or chest level in order to build up my skill in surfing open faced waves. When i go out the back in tourmaline, the waves are around 4 or 5 ft and are to big for me, i stand up for a couple seconds and just get slammed. But on good days when the surf is small, its perfect.

I know a lot of you will tell me to just look at surf reports and go on really good days, which i really should be doing, but i wanna explore more beaches and maybe ill find a better one for my lvl.

I learned how to surf at La Jolla Shores. Mostly 2-3ft waves there.

I usually go to La Jolla Shores also, it's a nice and easy beach. If the tide is low it can get really shallow though!
