Kiwi looking for LA surfing buddy in April

Like I said I'm a kiwi (New Zealander) looking to score some waves (preferably good ones but I'm not that fussed) on the famous west coast while I'm over in LA for the month of april. I'm a student in NZ so I unfortunately wont have a car while I'm over there due to insufficient funds however I can provide a pal to split petrol money with as well as unsurpassable froth over anything that looks surfable. I'll be based somewhere close to UCLA I think, so if anyone could help a brother out and take me out for a surf that'd just be choice.
Also any advice about surfbreaks and where to buy a cheap 2nd hand boards would be much appretiated
