A new surfing facility - Give your opinions

Postby PMP » Mon Mar 15, 2004 4:29 pm

Hi

I saw that it has been mentioned earlier so thought I'd add a bit more info. We are doing a feasibility study looking at building an indoor surfing facility in Tynemouth, near Newcastle. The centre would probably contain an indoor surfing facility, and may contain other facilities depending on what people would like to see it contain. Please could you fill in the questionnaire (you may have to scroll down the screen a bit) - it is called Waverider - Surfing in Tynemouth, and it would be very much appreciated if you could fill it in. Any general comments about the idea also very much appreciated.

Cheers to anyone who fills it in!

Get over to this site and fill in the questionaire. If you are a UK surfer you could benefit from a real valuable resource. The waves are crowded enough as it is and this sort of project could help everyone get more waves - if it is viable people will start building them.

PMP - could you provide some more information about the facility - is it a wave pool or what?

A new surfing facility

At the moment, we are still open to suggestions for the proposed development, and exactly what it will contain, size, scale etc.

We are looking at the possibility of a Flowrider system, which is a stand alone artificial wave - possibly a number of Flowriders, or a beginners one and a more difficult one for more experienced surfers. It is also possible that the facility will be linked with a skateboarding park, or another compatible activity.

The actual Flowrider itself is a stand alone facility, but there is potential for it to be linked to a leisure pool, wave pool or something similar. We would still welcome comments.

Thanks to all those who have completed the questionnaire so far, and please can others continue to fill it in... any opinions are appreciated

Just to add..........I should have mentioned, you can look at the type of the Flowrider facility we have been looking at at www.Flowrider.com

Please let me know what you think!

I have always wanted to try one of these things!!

I have taken a look at the flowrider site - would the facility in Tynemouth be a 'stand up' facility - apparently some agreement would have to be signed.

Whilst I'm sure I'd visit a bodyboard style version - I believe the standup one would attract a wider client base as you would get all the Snowboard & Skateboard enthusiasts too.

Worth considering as part of the feasibility study

Cheers
