Surfing Waves

Hi I'm new to the forum and work with an NPO.
We are busy trying to get research on the impacts of surf wax on the environment, we need the data to justify to my community that a recycling of surf wax in necessary for concervation initiative.

Does anyone know what goes in to surf wax and the amounts per stick (80g). This way I'll be able to determine the impact that the non-biodegradable surf wax industry has on the environment.

These are pictures of the beach I go surf at daily here in Indonesia....during the height of the rainy season (now until April) the beaches look like this....

Spend your time on something worthwhile....the effects of surf wax on the environment compared to the effects of third world sanitation systems and garbage disposal plans worldwide obviously trumps the mild film exuded by my Sticky Bumps.


.....not that I expect you to really listen since you're just doing your job; look hard at these pics and think about it later tonight and how little the first world's environmental programs affect the world's ecology at large.....living in the capital I have seen a row of office buildings that were backed up to a canal once used for shipping/transportation in the earlier colonial days, the buildings, 20+ stories all of them, each had a 35-40cm diameter pipe spewing raw sewage into the canal.....I stood on a bridge and took the sight in as far as I could see down the canal.........depressing stuff. More people need to work towards a solution for this; it is not a problem that is going away that is for sure.

I recycle my surf wax. I save the little bits and melt them down in a flexible plastic cup then pop it out after it hardens

That is very clever....I am going to start to do that. Currently I either chuck it or smash those last crumbles in a bald spot.

You are barking up a tree. Logically consider wax volume vs. earth media volume. Can you say insignificant or infinitesimally small? Another point from the related disciplines of organic chemistry and thermodynamics: what makes you think wax is not biodegradeable? I bet you do not even surf.

Very cool BoMan....I am going to look these guys up and see how I can be involved; they have beach clean up in Kuta....that would be an ideal Daddy - daughters learning experience though they might not see it that way in the moment.
