Surfing Waves

I was reading up on angling and how u position urself diagonally to the wave.. This kinda feels weird to me really.. i love looking at the huge wave in front of me and whipping around and paddling straight away.. anyways, I was wondering if the pros do this as well or does any of u do this?
MAIN questions: Is there different ways to catching a wave? I thought the way to catch a wave was to go straight, ride down the face, and then do a bottom turn. Or can u go straight, pop up, and start turning so ur going sideways at the middle of the wave???????? anyways, sorry for so many questions haha thanx ahead of time..

So do these waves you love turning around and paddling straignt in for ever get made?
