what do you do when spongers get in the way?

i was just wonderin what do you lot do when spungers get in the way i normally run them over but what do you do ?

Yeah I ask them not if if they hav't allready appoligised, goes for all water users. Don't have a problem with it up here.

I had a collision with a guy on Sunday. We were both kind of at a loss. I was paddling back out, came over the top of a wave and there was another wave right there. This guy was trying to catch it and I was right below him. so I started to paddle to the right, because I figured he would go to my left since the wave was a right. But he kind of stalled there, so I didn't know what he was doing, and didn't know which way to paddle to get out of his way. He kind of rode right over top of me.

No one was hurt, as I bailed my board and got underwater. We both appologized and all was good. Sometimes it just happens and it's no one's fault.

I was surfin up at torquay and i caught this real good, powerful, clean wave. The wave broke into anither section, and this lady (about 50 or so) caught this whitewash and i had to jump off this perfect wave because i was going to hit her.

she got off lightly that time;)

Do spongers get in the way that often
They're normally in two foot of water riding some white mush, and you know exactly where they're gonna go - straight towards the beach.

And if they are getting in the way, a polite word should do - its only ignorance usually, and they soon learn.

Seems to me its the guys (almost never girls) who are a tiny bit more experienced on hired (sometimes their own) mini-mals who aggressively defend their right to surf a broken 2ft of mush and get in the way.
Caught a mini-mal in the chest last year when someone jumped onto my wave, then kicked the board away from them when they realised we were going to collide.

That didnt end in a 'few polite words'...

That is excatly the sterotypical view most stand-up have about spongers.... the fat torust on a 3quid chuck of polystyrine...

REAL spongers are doing far bigger thenigs and its very rare for any of em to drop in on stand-ups. but it alwys happend the other way round in the UK... People have no idea most of the time.

Somtimes I really wish I was in Portugal or spain.. the bodyboard to stand up ration is like 3:1 in favor od b00gers...

I'm not slagging off boogieboarders - it ain't my bag, but some of the things Ive seen 'em do amaze me. Seems like they should be getting the sh*t kicked out of 'em but they seem to make it through alive.

'Spongers' to me has always meant someone on a foam/sponge 9ft beginner board... and they ARE usually in 2ft of white water heading straight towards the beach!!!

how ever i think runing them over is a really stupid thing to do you could quite easaly injure some one pretty bad that way

Aye for deffo, thats on of the pros of Bboarding the worth ijury you can get from a board impact is a bruse... no sharp edges you see ;)

Now with requards to what your riding over and could hit unfderwater... thats a different matter :o

when i said running ova i meant when they are underwater (duck diving) not on top i cut this guy on the head and i said sorry and he got in a right state swingin at me and now i just try to miss them but i want everyone to no i was just sayin going over spongers when they are duck diving and catchin them with my fins soz everyone

Ahh I see.. Just seem like you had it in for us! So in actual fact you mean anyone whos DDing thru a wave infront of you.

THe best way is to ateast make a carve round the area they are diving through, looks sytlish too :)

I know that most stnad-ups dis bboarding but i also no that most appreciate it at the same time and in many causes are often jelous of the versitility.

It seem particualy in the UK, NZ and USA where stand-up has become more of a fashion than a sport booging is seen as unfasionable but its core community and drive behind it remains truly a sport thats doing bigger things every year.
