Skimboarding

I usually bring a skimboard along with my longboard.

It's great fun on days when the conditions are iffy or when I can no longer paddle. The wetsuit stays on so I don't get "strawberries." Does anyone else like skimming?

I grew up skim boarding (and inner tube riding). We called skim boarding "sand sliding". When I got older my friends and I would drive a car on the beach and tow a person on a skim board along the beach but I haven't even tried it in 40 years

When I want a change of pace I switch to a boogie board and go for tubes on closeouts. I actually have a lot of fun on boogie boards. Last time I was on a skimboard was in junior high and I wasn't too good at it. I have a feeling I wouldn't have the resilience to get past the skimboard learning curve these days.

I understand completely. :D When the wave is too big (most of them really) I jump off or dive forward. The worst part is listening to comments from folks on the beach! Here's a wipeout video just for fun.

I've changed my mind on skimboarding :D I'm going to try it. I have a nice little private spot I can play around on one. Any recommendations on a first skimboard or tips for a beginner skimboarder? My dimensions: 5'11" 185lbs. Thanks.

Not sure if you wanted to "sand slide" or skim board on to the beach break closeouts, but this is a good tutorial from Austin Keen.

one step

monkey crawl

at Kelly's wave pool 11:21 to 11:35 only

Yeah, that Austin Keen video is why I've decided to get a skimboard. Thanks for the links.

I feel like I’d break an ankle skimboarding.

Agree! I make a point to land on the board in a crouch and roll when I fall.
