Is this longboard worth the money?

Postby johnsonmac » Mon Oct 26, 2015 1:25 am

'hi everyone,

I made a post few weeks ago about coming back into the surf scene, and now I need your help with whether or not this board is worth the money.
This longboard seems like it had a lot of damage but was repaired, $125

My budget is under 200 but there aren't that many opinions on my CL

First board no! Double broken in half NO! Maybe $50 as a beater board. Longboard thin and narrow ,= a performance longboard hence it has been snapped in doing short board type moves . Nope :!:
Second board more an I'm a bit more experienced rider and I'm looking to go short type of board so nope at this stage.

Look outside of Craigslist go hunting around surf shops and pawn shops ( just be aware that the pawn shop board may be stolen and turning up at beach with it could be hazardous to your health).
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

Double snap is bad enough even if professionally repaired with additional reinforcement in and out....those repairs look homemade and sloppy; I swear the board isn't even straight anymore.....not suitable for anything....even if perfect conditions, the rocker width and thickness are wrong for a beginner...too progressive and like Unc said, more suitable for an experienced rider who wants to throw the board around in good surf than for a guy who still differentiates between white and green waves.

I'm amazed it hasn't fallen apart just sitting there!

The most I pay is $10 for it. I treat it as a rental board. 1 day use.

On your first post awhile back, I recommended you NOT to buy a Pointy Step-Up or Mini-Gun. The 2nd board is basically a Pointy Step-up. But what's worst it has Glass-On fins. Do not get a board with glass-ons unless it's dirt cheap. Those fins, the carbon lines, and that Astrodeck traction pad looks to be around 15-20 years ago.

I looked at the CL SB site and did a search....this was #3.....said there were 108 total listings. You need something along these lines.

Yes, don't be stingy like me. I bought a second hand board that looks nice. It broke in half within two months and I can see that it has been repaired once it split in half. Worst decision ever.

johnsonmac,
it's true, Big H's post dated Mon Oct 26, 2015 4:41 am shows a good example of what you should be looking for. By the way, that is a nice price for a used 9 ft long board. I try to find them between $300 and $375.

Jaffa is right. In a surfing town like Santa Barbara, your board hunting is not limited to Craigslist. Get over to these 3 Santa Barbara shops and see what interesting used boards they have:
a. Surf n' wear beach house at 10 state st
b. Channel Island surf shop in the Funk Zone
c. Surf Country in Goleta at 109 S Fairview Ave

If these don't work out, then go to Ventura to look at used boards at:
a. Wave Front Surf Shop at 154 E. Thomspon
b. Ventura Surf Shop at 88 E, Thomspon

Heck, you can stop in Carp at these two before you even get to Ventura!
a. A Frame Surf shop on Santa Claus Lane
b. Rincon designs at 659 Linden Ave
