I have a funboard. It's too long to be a shortboard but shortboard design and I surf it like a shortboard.

I like Surfing. On a longboard, Funboard, Fishboard, Bodyboard or No board.
Ride the right vehicle for the right race course. Lifted truck for off-road, race car for the track. Can you drive a truck on the track ? Yes. Can you drive a race car in the mud. Well sort of. If the small mushy waves you surf call for a longboard, then ride a longboard. If the waves are more peaky and powerful, then ride a Short(er) board.
Maybe you're deciding what board to get. In that case you should get a SUV. Like a Funboard, that is in the middle of a shortboard and a longboard.

So far I like longboard ing better, simply because at my age and station and geolocation longboards are what finally have me finally actually surfing. I failed for years on a poorly chosen potato chip, due also to only very sporadic beach access and ignorance of wave mechanics. Do I hope and plan to also enjoy shortboard ing when the time and space are right? Hell yeah. First I'll probably rock the hybrid waiting patiently in the basement, which looks like a 7'6 version of what these cats are describing in the 'longboards for bigger waves' thread.

Be a smorgasboarder ride, what you want for the conditions and the waves you choose.
Whatever suits you best on any given day.
