Surfing Waves

Flying to the States with British Airway. 190cm is 6"3 and that is the size of my board. I guess I could put it in a board sock but then I would probably end up with a damaged board!

We will accept surfboards as checked baggage providing they do not exceed the maximum weight restrictions for checked baggage and are packed in a recognised bag or case to safeguard against damage.

The bag containing the board can be up to a maximum size of 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in).

Bags weighing more than 23kg (51lb) may incur a heavy bag charge.

That's a hassle I would not want. Where U going in US? Nearly anywhere there is surf in US, there is a healthy used board market. Between the Craigslist website and board shops, you'll have adequate selection. This is especially true in California. You can sell the board at the end of holiday to a board shop or give it away to charity thrift store operated by Goodwill, Salvation Army, or similar. If you are going to San Diego, Ventura/Santa Barbara, or Santa Cruz, there are regular users of this forum that will assist. We can probably scare up some some support in Orange Count alifornia, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, too.

I flew with BA once with a shortboard, and they put a fist-sized hole right through the board
It was in a proper bag, and it was very well packed, but not good enough apparently.
Then they wouldn't pay out for the damage that they'd caused

Buy a secondhand beater in the States forget traveling with boards and BA .
