Rule #1 "Customer is always right". No, they are not always right, but treat them as though they think they are. 2 cases at the surf shop I worked at comes to mind.

One customer came back screaming how his center box was installed "crooked" and how we did a bad job. We measured it up and it was straight 90 degrees. Then I walk around to the front of the nose and sighted down to the tail. At mid-point his blank was warped.

Another customer came in and said we sold him a "defective" board. He said it veers to the right when he paddles and rides. It was a 11' single fin, we checked the alignment of the box and looked for a warp deck. Everything was fine. On the weekend, I saw him coming down the face on his hands and knees. In the flats he got up barely to one knee and gets bucked off to the side. Heard he told others not to buy from us because we sell defective boards.

I wish I could of got on his board and ride a few. Hand it back to him and say " it works perfectly fine ".

Yeah I was going to say with an 11 foot single fin you would have a hard time just paddling without the huge fin dragging on the bottom

We sold the guy a NSP 11 foot longboard that comes with a 9" single fin. The board works really well. It was just the rider that was a little off.

Oh, try explaining to guys that fin cuts aren't under warranty for leashes. We even had two pieces of leashes to show what is a snapped leash and what a leash cut by a fin looks like.

Deep breaths....squeeze a stress ball....go surf it off....we've all been there in each of our jobs.......funny stories though....reminds me of an uncle who pointed to cows that were grazing on a hillside when I was a kid and asked if I knew that hill cows had legs longer on one side so that they could graze on hillsides more easily.....I remember that I didn't really believe him but I didn't NOT believe him either.....sounds like you had a hill cow on an 11' single fin.......

and when you go try surf it off, some guy drops in, freaks out when you try to go around him, shoots his board into your ankle. Then yells at you afterwards " why'd you cut me off, I WAS GOING STRAIGHT ! "

There's a huge learning curve in surfing. I remember when I discovered my first pressure ding on a board I bought about a month earlier. This was back in the pre-internet days. I didn't know what a pressure ding was, but I was highly suspicious of the shop that sold me the board. I just didn't believe that a pressure ding would happen unless you had been sold piece of junk. I didn't complain to the shop or anything, but I never went back there again. It's just the learning curve. If I owned a shop, I would view educating my customers as an essential aspect of keeping my business afloat.

I don't think that there is a choice if you want to stay open....


.....however, a healthy outlet with a group of others who understand the issues without having to be led by the hand and can feel your pain is highly encouraged to maintain shreds of sanity......
