I bought a 6'4 x 19 x 2 1/2 shortboard but i dont know what waves its best in. Its a second hand board and has a rounded pin tail. Does any know what waves this would be best to surf in? :)

Hard to tell without knowing the shape and rocker etc, but a skinny 6'4 with a rounded pin is likely to be for big, clean powerful waves with a solid face.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here and guess that you've just bought a board that might be a bit beyond your ability? :?

First question, how well do you surf? If you are a beginner then the waves that suit would be unsuitable for you

A rounded pin tail is a versatile board not really good for anything but good in a lot of conditions but there is much more to a board than the tail. The dimensions sound like a board for an advanced surfer so it may not be the best for a beginer. Since you are asking I am going to guess you are a total newbie and this board will be difficult to learn on because it doesn't have lots of floatation. Of course it depends on how big you are too. So if it will suffice for you depends on your motivation and how often you surf and your general fitness and athleticism. This will also determine how well you can ride it in whatever conditions. I ride a rounded pin tail in all kinds of surf. It keeps me happy.

Thanks for your guys help! Yeah it's gonna be hard for me and I'm up for that challenge. I'm eventually gonna shortboard so I'm doing it the hard way, and I'm in pretty good shape and 135 pounds. I have rode a 7'0 twice and rode it fine

question 1 : are you a Skateboarder or Snowboarder ?

question 2 : what rode fine about the 7'0" ? The catching the wave part or the turning on the wave part ?

Question 3: why do you wanna make something hard even harder?? :D

I learned on a shortboard made for an advanced surfer. It made for a quick transition to advanced boards but I was a highly skilled knee boarder prior to surfing so the transition from using fins to not was the main thing for me. If you like challenges this will be one, try to surf as much as you possibly can , like every day or it will take much longer.

I skate and snowboard so I guess that helps and I just want to shortboard. The 7'0 was easy to turn and to catch waves . Yes this board barely floats but I'm physically fit for it, my goal is to be able to surf it by the end of summer. I'm going surfing 4 times a week 5 hour sessions

Snowboarding doesn't help until you can catch and understand waves but 4 times a week 5 hour sessions should help, Just be prepared to not ride any waves for a while. Surfing is like 50% paddling 49% reading the waves and 1% board riding skill. During your 20 hours a week you will learn how to paddle a board, where to paddle a board and when to paddle a board, then you will learn to surf

The more surf sessions you have the better....... That and your desire to short board is about what will get you surfing once you get some skill then your snow skating skill may help.

Shred- it's cool you can snowboard. I went one time and it was easy I guess. Saw this rad trick. I think they call it a double mcttwister 1080. I want to do that one day, should be easy since you're already attached to the board ( unlike in surfing ). What's the best boots, strap connector thing and board you recommend to do that trick ?

Shred - I looked up that Burton stuff. Too expensive for me. What's the cheapest equipment I can use to do that trick, and good for first timer too ( well, 3rd timer ) ?

Any euipment will do, you just got to have time and patience and you could pull it off. Jumping into that to fast is dangerous tho, but let's keep this topic on surfing :)

Shred - one last question then. I have only been on "green" runs with a board I rented ( think it was a 142 inch ). What is the best board for Black Diamonds ? You think it'll be safe to try ? Considering I can surf, it'll be like riding a big wave.
