It's a good thing sharks don't seem to rely on vision. They use electrical signals and smell. I think one has to wonder why more people aren't eaten by sharks? Why is it more dangerous to drive to the beach than to swim in the ocean?

It would be cool to see how that board looks if it were to have the black and white stripes on it that are supposed to deter sharks

Sharks can't see color so the strategies for not getting eated while surfing are to make paterns that don't resemble prey species so stripes aren't like any prey species (camo bottom design is another strategy)

Apparently they like the colour yellow though and metallic things according to one documentary I saw! I won't buy any accessory now that is yellow.. You'd be surprised how much bloomin dive stuff is painted in Mr grey's favourite colour!!

If they don't eat anything yellow then yellow would be a good color

I've read the black and white stripes repellent effect isn't completely explained, but there are 2 theories:
First has to do with how the sharks see. When you make several black and white stripes they don't see one striped object, but several small white and black small objects. This would make they less interested (small preys).
The second is related to one of the most poisoning creatures on sea, if not the most. A sort of snake, which is striped black and white. Evolution would make sharks avoid eating animals with that pattern to avoid getting poisoned.

About yellow and shine objects, I would only suppose they draw attention, which is not a good thing.

Question, what color is the board in the photo with the seal. Probably we won't know exactly, but i suppose it looks black but it is not actually colored black. The reason it is Backlit. Doesn't matter if it black and white striped, neon yellow or Hot pink with polka dots and stars, it becomes all the same once it's backlit.

My advice is ride a longboard and sit next to shortboarders where their feet dangle in the water and look more like seals and turtles.

GOOD NEWS, in tropical waters Tiger sharks like eating turtles, body boarders silhouettes look more like turtles than short boarders and long boarders, short boarders look like deformed turtles so also easy prey.
Having said where everybody fits on the food chain, one thing sharks do is curiosity bite,
they will bite to see if it is edible.

There are a few reasons why I choose to sit next to someone who is worse than me at surfing. The main one is that if I see a shark, I know I can get get out faster than the other guy!

When I sit outside alone, I always wonder if I scream for help. Would anyone come and help me if I get attacked by a shark.
