Postby 954worldexplorer » Tue Dec 23, 2014 4:38 am

Sure it has a few dings but an Al Merrick for 70$ is something I couldnt pass up. I already have a board and am thinking about selling the Al Merrick. How much do you think its worth, I've attached a picture. Thanks!

That OAM traction pad with the air bladders ( like Nike Air Max shoes ) came out around 2002. So that board is probably about the same age. If it didn't come with fins, you paid too much.

( unless it has " for Kelly " on the stringer )

Those blue white fins are the original Kelly Slater K.21 fins. Sell the board but keep those fins. I would buy them from you.

How much would the fins alone go for?

Here is a question for you. If this board is really worth something why do you suppose someone is selling it cheap? Is it stolen? Maybe it's a lemon? Maybe the owner needed drugs? It certainly doesn't look like a beginners board.

No, It was through craigslist. Why, how much do you think this board in its condition would go for?

954,
it ain't that special. Come to Santa Barbara and I'll show you an entire store filled (only) Al Merrick boards. I'd say the board you bought is worth about $50 (US).

I am not sure but $70 since you were willing to pay that amount. An old board is worth whatever the buyer thinks it is. Al Merrick makes some great boards for Pro surfers but if you think anyone will enjoy those boards not necessarily so and I am sure he makes some lemons too and it's craiglist so beware scammers and thieves are all over the place.

Hey guys, little bit off the subject, but I found this great deal on the top of the line 2002 Nokia cell phone.

What's it worth ?

Now back to the Al Merrick. At a shop, on Craigslist, from a friend or neighbor, it still is a 12 year old board. If the width is 18" or less , than it's one of the those Rocker Ship boards us rats unconsciously bought following the Pied Piper up the hill and down to our death back in the 90's. Now if it was a vintage collectible like a Brewer, Gerry Lopez Lightning bolt, Greg Noll, Ben Aipa sting, etc. than it would be cool to own. maybe if you hold onto it for another 50 years ?

After a while, surfboards lose their "Snap". Kinda like how skateboards lose their "pop". I would say around 5 years is max. And a performance glassed board with 4 oz glassing way less.

Live and learn. Buyer beware. Ask us next time BEFORE you buy.
