50 best surf spots

Postby oldmansurfer » Sat Oct 18, 2014 5:31 pm

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/30/travel/50-surf-spots/ So here is a list of the 50 best surf spots. How many have you surfed? For me just one Hanalei. I am sure many of you have surfed far more. Let us know. Pretty sure Jaffa will have surfed a lot of them.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I'v been at Watergate Bay and Rincon, Puerto Rico, although that's a load of breaks. The whole north coast of Puerto Rico is reefs so there are loads of possibilities here.

Although I've been to eight on the list , I consider the whole thing a pretentious hoax!
A good portion of the waves mentioned the average surf would not be able to handle and the local surfers would resent the hell outof hapless hordes arriving there to have ze surf experience.
The list is just the sort of thing a clueless TV Chanel would compile. Fortunately there are as good or better waves than some there just around a corner. Will I tell you where?, no, will the locals tell you where? NO!
Also notice it is in the CNN travel section?
am I cynical about this , yes

I understand the sentiment but hardly a hoax maybe inaccurate. Maybe a better tittle would be 50 best well known good surf spots

OH they are great spots, for all manner of reasons, and they are well known, and they talk about them as spots for tourists to stand and admire, quite a lot fill that criteria.
Many of the other spots they are not going to come near to in general travel.
Cynically I think it is a list compiled by a news team based on we will look really cool if we publish something like this.

Watergate (UK)? World class?
Don't get me wrong - it's a lovely place to surf, and I always recommend it to anyone in the area in preference over Fistral (just as the article says), but it's a fairly average English wave!
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio
