This is most likely an early 1970s board by the line and shape and the single fin set up
Californian Expressions who made it probably don't exist any more but I know there was a Mike Purpus model in their range with that logo but with an added piece saying Mike Purpus model.
David Nuuhiwa was another of their surfers and they were based around Huntington beach.

Beside the stringer on the bottom of the board there may be penciled manufacturer's writing size info and maybe a date and model number. If you are especially lucky, there might be a name penciled there too. If they are known then value increases.
The board is in fair condition for its age
The board would be a great retro board especially if restored and had belonged to someone famous.

Value I'd be guessing from Australia.
Mike Purpus has a blog and a Face book page cause I'm out of information.

Before you take that beautiful board out in the surf, shorten that leash rope by about 4 inches. The leash rope should be only long enough for the rail saver to pass thru. Notice in the picture how the rope goes all the way to the rail ? It's either going to slice the rail or split the swallow tail down the stringer like a rope saw. ( oh and you'll probably have to fix the broken off tips like all used swallow tails have )

There were fin boxes around rare but there, I had them in boards I took to Hawaii in 1969 . Green ought fins and other new fins were beginning to appear both in glass and in a clear coloured plastic. Found the longer green ought snapped under Hawaiian pressure in major bottom turn ,great for face plants!

I just watched Super Sessions a surf movie from the 70's and they definitely had fin box systems in use on many boards back then so I retract my statement about the 70's being too early. Sorry Jaffa I guess Kauai was just a little behind the times back then :)

I forget how much behind everyone Kauai was back then. So what is the value of an old board? It is worth something if it belonged to someone famous. Other than that it depends on what you want to do with the board. Generally as far as surfing goes if the board is older it has less value due to aging of the foam and resin. So I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
