Hi,

Currently following the ASP Tour # 8.
http://www.aspworldtour.com/events/2014 ... es/results

I see there are many Rounds and within those rounds, different number of heats.

Looking at the event pdf: http://www.aspworldtour.com/asset/2370

Main question is, how are opponents placed for each successive round and heat?
Also,
How many get eliminated each Round?
Why are some heats 2 people and others 3?
Why are certain opponents placed against each other and others not?
What do these mean:
"1st>Rnd3,2nd,3rd>Rnd2"
"25th Ratings Points 500"
"R" "W" and "B" to to the very left of Round 1 heats?

Any help is appreciated,

Thank You!

I watch the ASP tour as much as possible. They have a formula for matching up surfers by placing the top and bottoms together in the same heat and working in from there. They recently went to three man heats where the winner goes on to the third round 1st>Rnd3 and the second and third go to round 2. 25th is the ranking given if they are eliminated in that heat and it gives them 500 points toward requalifying for the next year tour. I think R, W, B, are for the color of the jersy or shirt they are wearing for the competition. Did I miss anything? more info found here http://www.aspworldtour.com/pages/faq and here http://www.aspworldtour.com/assets/2014_ASP_Rule_Book_13-9-14.pdf

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and links, I will have to read that rule book. Then I can show up at the competition and help Kelly Slater win on a technicality.

hmmm...I sort of see the "top" matched with a "bottom" when looking at round 1 to round 2 but how did they know which tops and bottoms to match up?

Also, how did Kai Otton get into Round 3?

Thank You.

Kai Otton beat Wilko in round 2. Somewhere I saw a pre meet assignment sheet that had the rankings on the ASP tour marked assigned to whatever heats and then the winners of those on to the next etc.. Kelly Slater may not need your help to win. If he gets in tune with the waves he may win.

Sorry Kelly didn't win. I think the format of the ASP online changed about a year ago. Prior they would have seeding and heat sheets for the contests all available online before the contests. Before they did not have all the WCT contests available online and you had to look each one of them up from their various event sites. I used to keep the previous years contest url in hopes that the next year will use the same url and sometimes they did but sometimes they did not so I had to do searches for the online contests to find a feed to watch. I much perefer it now.
