Advice on new jersey

Hi, I'm going to new jersey in a week for the first time and was just wondering where the best place for a beginner is, I don't want to get UN anyone's way so somewhere quiet would be ideal, and a close by rental shop? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
