Surf Buddy Wanted (Essex)

Hi, I'm land locked Essex and am hoping to find someone who wants to meet up and surf. I have been surfing for a few years but not regularly due to the surf being a bit of a trek from Essex but also because I don't have anyone to surf with.
I try to get down to the SW coast at least once a year and have been trying to make more regular trips to Cromer. I usually drag my Husband along who doesn't surf just to keep an eye on me from the beach.
It'd be great to find someone to surf with, not just from a safety aspect but also to have someone to share the experience with.
Give me a shout!

peazz lives in Essex too. We were going to go Cromer together. However Cromer is terrible most of the time. I've been looking at MSW all day and it seems Wales got good waves too. I might pop over there this weekend. However I live in Cambridge so it's still quite far from where you live. Maybe we can all car share or something! Unfortunately I caught the bug and I need to surf every weekend or I become really grumpy.

Hi BaNZ thanks for the reply, it's good to hear that I am not all alone here in Essex! I was over your way today (well Huntingdon) for work. Wales does sound like it gets some fairly decent waves. I agree regarding Cromer, on a good day it's surfable but with the travel to/from you have to be sure it's not a wasted journey. Saying that Cromer on Saturday was by no means perfect conditions but it was surfable (possibly because I was desperate having not surfed since October and although I have been surfing for a few years I'm still beginner ability). I get what you mean about the bug, I can ignore the urge to surf during the colder months but now I have had a taste again all I can do is think about when the next surf will be! I need to find somewhere decent I can do in a day, like Cromer but more reliable.

Hi SurferGirl83
I am on the other side of the Thames to you so I have a similar problem (luckily my other half does surf so that makes life easier!)
We travel to Wittering mostly for our Surf, I don't know if it's any better than Cromer but it's fairly consistent and is 2 hours drive from me, so maybe 2 and a half (?) for you (depending on where in Essex you are)
There is an organisation called The London Surf Club
http://www.londonsurfclub.com/ and they regularly run trips to various different breaks around the country, so if you need Buddies to surf with that's probably a good place to start.
Also, if you can make the trip a vary rare event is reported to occur this Sunday. Joss Bay (near Margate in Kent) is actually predicting waves! If this turns out to be true, myself and the missus will certainly be there!! Look for the tubby guy in the black and red suit on the flowery longboard!
Keep the stoke alive!

Hi all,
I am based in Sandy, Bedfordshire - apparently the furthest you can get from the coast in the UK.. bad planning
When MSW tells me to, and I can, I head over to Sea Palling - the other side of Norwich. My wife doesn't surf and would rather I was accompanied when I go!
Maybe we could set up an informal group - whoever is going over and try to link up?

Sounds like a plan, we can do a facebook group or something!

Yes, this weekend should be good. I'll definitely be there on Sunday! However it seems quite windy.

Is the south coast too far away for you all? Surely it's closer than Wales? I no the waves won't be as good but I think there is more surf than you get from the East Coast.

BaNZ are you going to Cromer this Sunday? I'll also be there! Dragging the hubby along and getting him a surf lesson (in the hope I may be able to convert him).

Pretty much all surf is 2+ hours from me so I don't mind a bit of travel. I have never tried Wittering but that's handy to know it's fairly consistent. The only reason I go to Cromer is because it's familiar and I have family I can visit when over that way.
Joss Bay is another spot I need to try, won't be this weekend though as I have already made arrangements to go over to Cromer. I hope you get some waves!

That sounds like a good idea, it'd be easier arranging stuff using a group on Facebook.

Me too, I am only a weekend warrior. I can only be off during the week if I book holiday.

I have never been on the South Coast, but have been keeping an eye on Bracklesham - it's nearish my sister and sometimes seems to have a wave. Wales is a long way. But then so is Norfolk. And Bracklesham. And Devon. And Skegness.

Best south coast spots are (imho) East (or West) Wittering, Shoreham, Boscombe & Brighton.
But Joss Bay (kent coast) is looking good for Sunday, if a little bit breezy. hopefully it'll be alright.

I've created a group called "Surfing Waves UK" on Facebook, join up and so we can organise trips!
