Surfing Waves

I really want to start surfing because I already do surf life saving and i am very experienced with the ocean. But i dont know where to start. I dont have enough money to buy a board. And i dont know what board i should get. I surfed quite oftenly a couple of years ago and i could stand up quite easily ( it was a 7" fish) and i have two boards at home the other is a 6-7" shortboard. And i am too shy to go out in tge surf because most of the people i know surf and they are all good but it would be very embarrasing because i am not that good. Thanks in advance

Everyone has to learn sometime. Surfers might make fun of you if you are a newbie but they were all newbies once and had to put up with that. Most surfers don't care as long as you stay out of their way. For safety it is good to have a friend around to help you out if you are in trouble but if your a lifeguard you are probably aware of that. I think the 7 foot fish would be good. If you are really in shape and had no trouble before then it seems likely you won't have any trouble this time (unless you are out of shape now).
