Balance help

I do balance exercises twice a week. They consist of me standing on one leg and raising the other straight forward till it is horizontal then lowering it without touching the ground then raising it sideways and lowering it without touching the ground, then raising my knee up to my chest, then lowering without touching the ground then sticking my leg straight backward and back down without touching the ground. I repeat this for 10 reps then do my other leg. Typically I have been unable to complete more than one or two reps without having to touch the ground but lately I have started a new exercise and since I did this I have been able to complete 10 reps and maybe touch the ground once or twice or not at all. It all started because I was thinking about trying to get my hips into my turns. I started doing hip rotations. Standing with my feet spread apart like I would in my surf stance I rotate my hips around in circles as far as I can go in every direction something like I would do if I were using a hula hoop. I know many of you youngsters may not need to free up your hips and probably don't even know what a hula hoop is but it might help you all too.

Try doing the balance thing with your eyes closed.

No idea if it helps, but its heaps harder!

When I was younger I used to do a similar exercise although more complicated. I started at my head and rotated that then my shoulders the my waist then my ankles and then I did my whole body. So I found that when I did rotate my whole body it was easier with my eyes closed. I'll try close my eyes with the one leg standing thing though that would be heaps harder I think.
