Hi PandaJosh,
Try it. You might like it!

Seriously, you only have to wear a wetsuit when you want to. If you are comfortable without a wetsuit, then it is safe to go without one. In California our water temperature is relatively low. But, we get some sunny days with high air temperatures. When this occurs, we'll brave the cold water temp for a little bit.

You can give it a shot sans wetsuit but I wouldn't bet money on staying out too long or being comfortable. The water is sitting around 59 right now and air temps still aren't very high. You lose heat pretty quick when your in water which will lead to hypothermia if your not careful. Do you still just surf huegenot park? Was out there today picking up knee high peelers all by myself was fun but pretty cold.

I was wearing a spring suit half way through winter...where the waters were around 58-60 degrees in CA. My feet would get cold and I'd get out of the water after 90 minutes tops. So, it can be done....it's just COLD....but being cold affects your surfing skills. I finally broke down and bought a full wet suit with booties and was able to surf for 3-4 hours comfortably.
